Bring a Mate

Terms & Conditions

The eligibility, points and monthly competition rules for Bring a Mate.

Taking part

Bring a Mate is optional and is part of Wight Employment Hub. Creating a Hub account does not enrol you — you choose to join. Candidate, Employer and Organisation account holders can all take part.

You must be aged 16 or over to take part.

Each person, business or organisation can only be referred once. The first valid referral attached to an account is the one that counts and cannot be replaced by another referrer.

How points are awarded

  • A referral awards 25 points to the referrer when a new Candidate, Employer or Organisation account is successfully created through the referral link. Bring a Mate points and the leaderboard are for members who joined the Hub through a Bring a Mate referral link themselves. The referred person does not need to join Bring a Mate, complete Ready for Work, post a vacancy or post a volunteering opportunity for this to count.
  • A referred person uses the normal Hub sign-up. The referral link only records who referred them — it does not decide their account type, which they choose themselves during sign-up.
  • Ready for Work is currently for Candidates only. It is optional. Points are added to your Bring a Mate total as each of the 7 stages is completed: 10, 10, 15, 15, 15, 15 and 20 points — 100 in total. Each stage awards its points once only, and stages already completed are credited once when you first open My Bring a Mate.
  • Buddy Bonus: when a Candidate referred through a confirmed referral joins Bring a Mate and completes all 7 Ready for Work stages, they and the Candidate who referred them each receive 25 Buddy Bonus points. This is in addition to the original 25 referral points, and is awarded once per referral. It is only awarded where the referral can be verified from the Hub’s records.
  • A referred Employer or Organisation receives one free homepage Spotlight for one week when it publishes its first job vacancy or first volunteering opportunity. Only one Spotlight is given per referred business or organisation. The Spotlight is separate from points.
  • Clicks alone, starting sign-up, or accounts that already existed do not earn points. Self-referrals do not count. Refreshing, revisiting or repeating anything never earns the same points twice. A mobile number can only belong to one participant.

Leaderboard eligibility and saved points

A participant appears on the public leaderboard when they created their Hub account through a valid Bring a Mate referral link. This applies equally to Candidates, Employers and Organisations, and everyone competes on the same leaderboard.

Ready for Work points are added to your own Bring a Mate points total as you complete each stage, whether or not you are on the leaderboard. Completing Ready for Work is optional and does not, by itself, make you eligible for the leaderboard — eligibility comes from joining the Hub through a valid Bring a Mate referral link. Each stage earns its points the first time it is completed, up to 100 points in total across all 7 stages.

After you become eligible, new points count in the month in which the required action is completed. Monthly totals reset without deleting your account or referral history.

Monthly prizes

Eligible participants are ranked by their combined monthly Ready for Work, referral and Buddy Bonus points. At the end of each month, first place receives a £30 gift voucher, second place a £20 gift voucher and third place a £10 gift voucher.

When points count

Points are only awarded after the required action has actually been completed.
